Grace (a song)

I’m not a big one on lyric-sharing. There’s something so… I don’t know… girly? about it. The coffee drinking instagramming, I-can-play-three-chords-sorta kind of girly. But anyway. I wrote this and it’s in need of a little refinement. It has a tune and everything. So I though I would share it because music makes me feel better when I’ve not been well.

1.Boxes of letters, all crumpled and torn
Like our paperback hearts, all dog-eared and worn.
They come back to haunt us, those words from the past
Till they’re burned up by grace and we’re free at last.

No one ever told us how hard this life could be
They only even told us we could set our own selves free.
We realised the lie as we tried and tried again
Till grace cut through our anguish and cast away the chains
Till grace cut through our anguish and cast away the chains.

There’s a place at the table for the weary and sad
There’s no place for the good but there’s space for the bad.
And he gives us forgiveness we never could have had
If it weren’t for the grace that paid it all.

2. Our songs tell of sorrow and out songs tell of pain
They remind us in this world we’ve nothing to gain.
The trials and the burdens soon slow our pace
But the weight of it all is swallowed by grace.

And we find our hearts aching with love for the lost,
We’re learning that nothing is too high a cost.
So we’ll tell it everywhere, every far-flung place
This call to repentance, this gospel of grace
Hear the call to repentance this gospel of grace:

There’s a place at the table for the weary and sad
There’s no place for the good but there’s space for the bad
And he gives us salvation we never could have had
If it weren’t for the grace that paid it all.

3. Now we stand in the valley, longing for the heights
Praying for the sunrise to dispel our nights.
Then comes the quiet voice, calling us home,
Telling us we’ll make it by grace and grace alone.
Sinner, you will make it by grace and grace alone.

There’s a place at the table for the weary and sad,
There’s no place for the good but there’s space for the bad.
And he gives us salvation we never could have had
If it weren’t for the grace that paid it all.
He gives us salvation, we never could have had
If it weren’t for his grace which covers all.
