Kangaroos and Wallabies

travel

It’s crazy but I’ve been writing a lot since coming home. The words just pour out, often unexpectedly, and they just keep coming. I hadn’t realised how sad I am at the moment until I read over some of what I’d penned. No matter what anyone else says, I think that maybe the best way to find out what you are thinking and feeling is to write. Themes emerge and it’s a curious thing to behold.

So this evening with kangaroos and wallabies and all the things I want to see dancing round my head, I wrote a song. It took just under an hour from the first words to the completed chords and tune. These are only the lyrics but I hope you enjoy them all the same:

Kangaroos and wallabies

And all the things I’d love to see

If I could travel the world.

The Eiffel Tower, the Grand Canyon,

Don’t you think it would be fun

If we could travel the world?

The pyramids, the USA,

Norway’s endless summer days,

If I could travel the world.

Volcanoes, the Victoria Falls,

I would love to see them all

If I could travel the world.

Well I’ve seen the barrier reef

And I’ve climbed Mount Fuji

And I’ve seen the skies and I’ve seen the seas,

But they’re nothing without you next to me.

Kangaroos and wallabies

And all the wonders I would see

If I could travel the world.

But when all is said and done,

There’s one place for me and only one,

Don’t need to travel the world,

My world’s right here.
